Re: since when are “cities better for the ernevonmint.†Efficiencies of scale.A densely populated city (think NYC, not Phoenix) will have a lot more amenities in a smaller amount of space, reducing, even eliminating, the need to drive. Cities often have mass transportation too, which is less polluting (per passenger mile traveled) than a car. Rural people drive a lot. City people less so. It's the difference (as an example) between Rod's lengthy commute to go to an Orthodox Church in Baton Rouge and my short three mile trip across downtown Baltimore on Sundays.
